PETALING JAYA, 29 November 2025
The Crown Prince of Perlis, HRH Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and his consort, HRH Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, graced the International Congress on Advances in Autism, Neurodevelopmental & Neurodegenerative Disorders (ICAANND 2025) yesterday, underscoring Malaysia’s growing commitment to strengthening autism awareness, early diagnosis, and intervention nationwide.
Their presence was warmly welcomed by more than 200 international delegates, marking one of the strongest endorsements yet for the development of a comprehensive autism and neurodevelopmental care ecosystem in Malaysia.
Perlis has seen a consistent rise in autism prevalence among school-aged children—from 5.53 per 1,000 in 2018 to 7.65 per 1,000 in 2022, according to Ministry of Education data.
As Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor of University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), the royal couple has been instrumental in advancing community-driven initiatives and supporting UniMAP’s A-HEART Autism Hub, a rapidly growing center for early identification, clinician training, research, and family support in northern Malaysia.
Congress Organising Chairman Professor Mike Chan, who also serves as Honorary President of Regenerative Medicine at Strategic Swiss Partners AG (SSP), described the royal presence as “a national milestone.”
“When royalty stands with clinicians, parents and educators, it sends a clear message that autism support deserves national priority,” Chan said.
“This is how compassion and science come together for earlier intervention and greater impact.”

Strengthening Foundations for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Care
The congress builds on Prof Dato Seri Chan’s August working visit to Perlis with Dato’ Guna Mahalingam, SSP Chairman and Malaysia’s Honorary Consul in Zurich, and Dato’ Nelson Fernandez, Executive Chairman of FMT. During the visit, the team toured the A-HEART Autism Hub, met with education authorities, and engaged the Perlis royal family on strengthening Malaysia’s autism care ecosystem.
During his keynote address, Chan reiterated his long-held belief that conditions long deemed “untreatable,” including autism, are increasingly approachable through precision medicine and targeted regenerative science.
He also announced plans for a new non-profit foundation dedicated to autistic children and neurodevelopmental health, which will:
Expand cross-border clinician training
Share evidence-based treatment protocols
Support underserved families
Strengthen international–Malaysian research and clinical collaboration
“No child should be left behind,” he emphasized. “Our goal is to build a stronger, more inclusive autism support system for Malaysia.”
Global Participation and SSP’s Expanding Role
ICAANND 2025 brought together more than 200 physicians, complementary medicine practitioners, researchers, and educators from around the world to explore practical advances in autism care, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases.
As part of its commitment to driving scientific innovation and cross-border collaboration, Strategic Swiss Partners AG (SSP) recently appointed Professor Mike Chan as Honorary President of Regenerative Medicine, further strengthening SSP’s mission to bridge Switzerland, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia in pioneering health and biomedical research.
