Strategic Swiss Partners AG (SSP) joins the international medical, military, and diplomatic community in mourning the passing of Major General Dato’ Pahlawan Dr. R. Mohanadas (Rtd.) a distinguished military physician, humanitarian, and respected member of the SSP Global Advisory Board.
Major General Dr. Mohanadas dedicated his life to the service of humanity through medicine, military leadership, and public service. His unwavering commitment to ethical leadership, compassion, and international cooperation embodied the very values that SSP seeks to promote through its global network of advisors and strategic partners.
His passing is deeply felt by all of us at SSP, particularly by his fellow Global Advisory Board member, Prof. Dr. med. Hans U. Baer, whose personal tribute reflects a remarkable friendship forged through shared service, professional excellence, and mutual respect.

Some friendships are measured by how often one meets. Others are measured by something less easily counted. Mohan and I saw one another only a handful of times in our lives, across some ten thousand kilometers — and yet he was, and remains, one of my true friends.
We first met in Switzerland during the International Humanitarian Law Course organised by the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM), where I served as Course Commandant on behalf of the Surgeon General of the Swiss Armed Forces. Participants came from around the world, united by a common commitment to military medicine and humanitarian service.
Mohan represented Malaysia. Although he would later become the head of the Malaysian Armed Forces Medical Services as a Major General, what impressed me most was not his rank, but his character. As fellow surgeons and military officers, we quickly found common ground discussing medicine, responsibility, and the unique duty of physicians serving in uniform. Equally meaningful was the friendship our families shared. My wife Christina, who comes from Indonesia, and Mohan’s wife Thilaga immediately formed a close bond, reflecting the warmth and cultural ties that connected our families.
During our stay in Malaysia, Christina and I experienced extraordinary hospitality from Mohan and Thilaga. They welcomed us into their home, introduced us to their family, and shared their country with generosity and kindness that left a lasting impression.
We discussed ambitious plans to collaborate in surgery, research, and medical education in Malaysia. While distance and life’s commitments prevented many of those ideas from becoming reality, the friendship itself endured.
Christina and I have always regarded Mohan and Thilaga not simply as international colleagues but as true kindred spirits. It is a description I use sparingly.
I need not repeat the many well-deserved tributes paid to Mohan in Malaysia. He was an outstanding military officer, a gentleman, an exceptional physician, and above all, a humanist. In him, professional excellence, humility, compassion, and integrity existed naturally and without pretence.
He was laid to rest in Kuala Lumpur with the honours befitting his remarkable service. Our thoughts remain with Thilaga and his family.
Mohan, we miss you very much.

It was both an honour and a privilege to know Major General Dato’ Pahlawan Dr. R. Mohanadas as a colleague, advisor, and friend.
Dato Pahlawan Mohan represented the finest qualities of leadership. Despite his distinguished military career and numerous achievements, he remained remarkably humble, approachable, and deeply committed to serving others. He believed that leadership was not defined by rank or title, but by integrity, compassion, and the willingness to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. His wisdom and experience greatly enriched the SSP Global Advisory Board. He consistently encouraged dialogue across cultures, professions, and nations, reminding us that lasting progress is achieved through collaboration, mutual respect, and shared purpose.
Together with Prof. Dr. Hans U. Baer, Dato Pahlawan Mohan exemplified the international spirit upon which the SSP Global Advisory Board was founded—bringing together outstanding leaders from around the world who dedicate their lives to service, peace, and responsible leadership.
While we mourn the loss of an exceptional individual, we also celebrate a life that touched so many. His legacy will continue to inspire our work and reinforce our commitment to building bridges between nations and advancing initiatives that create lasting positive impact.
