SSP's Dr Lustenberger welcomes HE General Luhut of Indonesia at WEF 2018 in Davos

DAVOS: January 24, 2018

Managing Partner of Strategic Swiss Partners (SSP)'s Dr. Urs Lustenberger recently delivered a welcome speech to H.E. General Luhut Pandjaitan, Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, in the presence of distinguished guests of the World Economic Forum 2018 in Davos.

Dr. Lustenberger, who is also President of the Swiss Asian Chamber of Commerce (SACC), hosted the side event, a luncheon, in collaboration with Indonesia’s Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

In his speech, he said the event, titled Indonesia’s Untapped Investment Opportunities, was considered important because it was the venue in which new business and investment opportunities were identified, and possible links forged with Indonesia.

"At this luncheon, you will have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the latest developments in Indonesia which offer excellent business prospects and investment opportunities," he said, adding that Indonesia was one of the fastest growing countries in the world and the biggest economy in ASEAN.

He also explained that Indonesia's economy, that had been growing steadily at around 5% since 2014, would be from 2018-2022, supported by private spending with a real GDP growth averaging 5.1% p.a.

"The government has worked hard on reforms, including removing fuel subsidies to free up funds to finance the building of roads, railways and ports.

"As the result of its disciplined fiscal policy in 2017, Indonesia received investment grade ratings from Moody's, Standard & Poor's as well as Fitch. Its Ease of Doing Business index has also improved every year," he said.

Dr. Lustenberger also said that Indonesia had jumped 19 places this year to rank at 72 compared to 91 in 2016. "The momentum to invest in Indonesia has never been stronger."

General Luhut, who has spent much of his military career in Kopassus (Army Special Forces), was appointed Presidential Chief of Staff in December 2014. In August 2015, he was appointed Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

He is also the founder of the Toba Sejahtera Group that deals mainly in energy, mining, coal, oil and gas, plantations and electricity. In 2012, Toba Bara Sejahtera was listed on the stock exchange.
